Xbox 360 Bluetooth Controller Driver

I bought a Bluetooth Xbox One controller a few months back and I've had some problems with it. Games were stuttering, freezing for 10-20 seconds at a time, and the controller would become unresponsive, though the games didn't crash when that happened. For the first month or so I couldn't figure out why, and I thought it was just Windows 10 acting up. Then I realized something. One day the controller went dead and I had no charged batteries, so I plugged it in. I was able to play for an hour and a half, almost two, with no problems whatsoever (until the game finally crashed). I ran an experiment, where I played with the controller always plugged in, and had no problems. I thought maybe it was the dongle, despite the fact that my current one worked just fine with my headphones, even in the other room. I just bought my THIRD BT dongle, and tested it out. I immediately had issues with responsiveness and stuttering. I've double checked that the drivers for both the dongle and controller were updated, and checked the firmware on the controller. Nothing new. Same issues. Any suggestions? Should I just take this thing back already (if at all possible)?
